WALKING; Walking/Hiking/Climbing in and around Louisburgh
If you’re thinking of walking, climbing or rambling in and around Louisburgh then there are some very interesting walks for you to discover. Located on the Atlantic coast of Ireland, visitors to Louisburgh are continually surprised by the magnificent scenery in the immediate area, safe pollution-free Blue Flag beaches, Connaught’s highest mountain (Mweelrea), Ireland's Pilgrimage Mountain (Croagh Patrick), Island trips, tracing the steps of the famous pirate Queen, Gráinne Uaile and stunning scenery – there’s something for everyone.
In addition to walking you’ll find a number of leisure pursuits in the Louisburgh area including swimming at blue flag beaches, fishing, golf, surfing, pony trekking and other outdoor pursuits.
BEACHES; The Louisburgh Area is renowned for its choice and wide range of beautiful, blue flag beaches.
SURFING; Surfing
There are several good locations for surfing in County Mayo, one of which is Carrownisky beach just minutes from Lousiburgh and the West View Hotel. Just around the corner from the Hotel, Surf Mayo has a shop were you can hire equipment, including boards and wet suits; beginners can organize lessons and there's coaching for improvers. The surfing season is usually during, April and May and September and October.
FISHING; Sea & Shore Fishing
From Clew Bay to Killary Harbour, Louisburgh offers excellent shore fishing. Deep sea fishing trips can be arranged for both individuals and groups. At the West View we have a special arrangement with the owners of a 300HP 38’ Bullet – The Restorick II that specialises in reef and wreck fishing in the Clew Bay area. The Restorick II is fully geared for bluefin tuna anglers. Mainland departures are from Roonagh just 5kms from the West View Hotel.
KILLARY CRUISE; No visit to this area would be complete without a visit to Killary Fjord. The nine mile long inlet boasts some of the finest scenery in the West of Ireland,
FERRY TRIPS; To the nearby island of Inisturk anf Clare Island.
GOLF, HORSE RIDING AND SWIMMING; Just s short spin away to the neaby town of Westport.
